Afternoon tea was a thing of the past. Back in 1840, the concept of afternoon tea was introduced locally by the Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Russell. Like the best of us, she felt that sinking feeling around 5 o clock, between meals, and decided to grab a light snack a pot of tea. She later invited friends to join her in this ‘afternoon tea’ and it soon became a respectable practice with other hostesses.
